ABOUT THE ARTIST

Liz Lea, an interdisciplinary artist originally from Nashville, TN, earned a BFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Georgia in Athens, GA, and most recently, an MFA in Painting at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA. Between these academic pursuits, Lea created and showcased her work across the United States, from Los Angeles, CA, and Santa Fe, NM, to Marfa, TX, as well as internationally in Italy and France.

Lea’s paintings explore the binaries of life/death, conscious/unconscious, and seen/unseen. After a decade navigating a complete life upheaval, Lea underwent a profound transformation. Her paintings personify the various states of consciousness during her metamorphosis and rebirth. Wrought with feral marks and vivid color, they use figurative archetypes and mythological abstraction to embody states of being. Through contradictory forces of trauma and transcendence, Lea’s paintings offer a passage through the kaleidoscopic nature of alternate states of consciousness.
